Charged to cash an account holder check

Went into a branch to cash a check drawn on Wachovia Bank. This was an insurance check from a life policy. Since Wells Fargo bought Wachovia out we figured cashing the check would be hassle free but no way. These turds charged $7.50 to cash a check drawn on their bank. I almost told them to stick it and go deposit the check in my bank so as not to have to pay a fee. These types of establishments are giving all banks a bad name and should be banned from being in business. Doing this just so the CEO's can draw some exhoribant salary and bonus is *** me off.

First of all you need to DEPOSIT the check into the bank.Once the check clear's.Their will be no CHARGE at all from the CHECK.I once recieved a LARGE CHECK from a DEATH OK.The bank wanted to know how i came about having this LARGE CHECK.Although the INSURANE COMPANIES name was LISTED ON THE CHECK.The bank has to know this information for TAX REASON'S OK.Once i informed the bank that the check was from my SON'S DEATH their was no problem DEPOSITING THE CHECK and Getting the CHECK CLEARED.Their is know REASON to be UPSET.Unless you do not have an ACCOUNT with this bank. Then sure you will have to pay to get the check CASHED.Just because the check is issued by WACHOVIA,Does not mean you have an ACCOUNT with WACHOVIA.And know i do not work for WACHOVIA.

Andrea Ahw

Then you should have deposited it in your own account. That is why you have a bank account.

Why are you surprised by this? Ask YOUR bank how much they charge to cash a check YOU write to someone who does NOT have account with them.

What business is it of yours? My bank doesn't charge for those things so keep your *** comments to yourself. I suppose you must work at one of these banks so you are kissing ***?

No I do not work for a bank, but thank you for showing your ignorance. EVERY bank, very *** one charges nonaccount holders a fee to cash checks.

Even yours.

Like I said, ask your own bank how much they charge, It is $5-10, some charge a percentage of the check amount. And it became my business you *** the moment you posted your lunacy on this public website.

Most banks don’t charge non-account holders to cash checks written by their account holders. If they did, no one would take checks

Bank Wells Fargo

The bank is by far the worst group of employees. The manager comes out and says I will not cash your check even though they have done it a dozen times prior. My name and ID matched and the person who wrote the check has seven figures in the bank. I told him I would call my sister and they would then receive a call from her officer in Texas. He said it was up to him to accept the call or even honor the check still. Then a lady in line started saying another satisfied customer. That was wrong of her to say that and get invoved at all. Of course they wouldn't say anything to that customer. At the end I walked over to the managers desk and he said he would open a saving account for me and cash the check then. I didnt have a problem with that since it was for my daughter anyhow. So then he gave me a bag of gifts - and of course said he was so sorry for starting off the wrong way. The whole time I'm thinking he really is not very smart and WF shouldn't have placed this manager in this high net worth area which responds differently to people who make rash dicissions before they know where they can land up. I know the tellers are not to smart either just the way they handled the matter. Saying we can't and will not cash your check. Weather I keep the account depends on several factors.

I know the tellers are not to smart either just the way they handled the matter. (As said by 312866 anonymous) Dear mam/sir, you cannot form proper sentences, so why are you commenting on other peoples intelligence.

Just so you know it should read something like this.

"I knew the tellers were not very smart either by the way they handled the matter." I have a good feeling that the people in that bank were probably just fine and you are the *** that's different. Your kind should be exterminated.

Wachovia, I hope you go bankrupt@!

Oh Wachovia. You definitely are not good at banking but you are good at making the people that give you a job mad at you. Last week I went to the bank with multiple checks. Two were from my employer. I cashed one deposited one and also deposited four checks from my checking account into another account (not owned by me). These checks were for monies owed and I needed proof (via check) that these items were paid for. This was at noon on a Friday. Come Tuesday, the checks have been cashed and debited from my checking account. I was then notified from the other person (whom I owed the monies) that they still have not received the money. I have the receipt, I have the cancelled checks and the money is nowhere to be found. After I was told several times by Wachovia that if the checks were cashed it was the individual's responsibility (whom they were written to) to find out where they went. Hum? I thought the purpose of a bank was to manage my money. I tell this information to the other person who then calls and is told that he can take no action because the checks are not drawn from his account. We then both call on the phone at the same time and after many hours discover that the teller at the bank had deposited the checks into the checking account from which the checks were written. I filled out the deposit slip, the checks were not made out to me and were signed by the other party so why would they deposit them into the same account. I then was told that the checks would have to clear my account in order for the money to be deposited back in as a check deposit. Two days later I got my deposit money for the checks and had to set up another payment with the individual. Now today I find out that I can no longer access my online banking. After being hung up on three times, put on hold for more than 30 minutes and placed back into the automated system. I am asked with every question about my account. Do I purchase gas from this service station, how many recent transactions etc. This are things I could answer with online banking. Yes I got gas, at a BP. Most likely they are not under BP name but J&S gas or mom and pop mart. Then the agent tells me that I am providing the wrong debit card number. Uh no I have it right here and I can read, this is the number. After arguing with her for several minutes she says oh, I was mistyping. This bank has very poor customer service. When I have to call them I feel like a criminal trying to get my own money from the bank. They constantly tell you "I'll look into this and call you back". I end up calling them back the next day asking them where my money went. I cant wait to change to another bank!

Worst Customer Service Ever with Wells Fargo

Since Wachovia changed to Wells Fargo it has been a joke!!! There is no customer service anymore. It is no longer about the customer who helps you pay your bills and salaries. It is only about what WELLS FARGO gets and wants. You do not get greeted when you pull up at the drive through, nor do you get thanked for your business. The tellers do not check to see if what they are doing is right. Even though it takes them up to a half hour longer to do my deposit. Many times we have put a petty cash check in to be cashed, and they give us our ID's back with no money and worst of it, they don't even realize they have done this. We have to correct them. A company check for petty cash for the benefit of making change at our business now requires 2 Id's, fingerprint and $5. There is no way we are going forward with this. There is no organization. Making daily deposits have increased for taking 15 min or less to a 45 min to an hour wait. This is awful and I hope that our company will pull all of the accounts with Wells Fargo.

Closed and took money out without notice

Had account with Wachovia (previous First Flagler bank since 1998. They didnot initially freeze my account secundary to a complaint from a family member that didn't have access to my account and based on this without any transaction made to that third pary, wachovia closed the account and took all the money out. No explanations were given. Had a lawsuit and only recovered $40000 of the $163000 in the account as settlement and was advised by Judge Magistrate Wm. Turnoff that I could of lost more since in the contract you sign the can ask for their attorney fees (Wachovia) irrespective if you win or loose. So beware and read the openinig account contract and avoid "all is permitted" if you sign and remember in my case I had a inicial contract dated 1998 so then tehere is no new contaract and the judge also told me I really could not sue for breach of contract.

Wachovia Bank rips you off...

How can you go into your bank and ask for the balance of your account 2 wks. after you stop using card, then take that amount out of bank. Well 1 week later they find 2 debit items against your account and since no monies are in there they charge $70/each for them setting your account at -$140.00. They are ripping people off. The 2 debit amounts were $1 and $5.00, hmmm does this seem fair. Bank did not care and said they could do nothing. Wachovia is a ripoff and i will tell everyone i know not to bank there for this reason.

You shouldn't depend on the bank to keep up your account ,Keyword [ your account ] is your responcibility , not the bank , any bank . so keep up with your charges and don't spend what you haven't got .

Money doesn't multiply like rabbits .if it ain't there then the tooth fairy won't leave you any . :sigh

I'm glad to be a client of wachovia ,[wells fargo bank ] as you know an institution is only as good as it's worst employee . My worst experience was with [ Regions Financial / morgan-keegan .] watch out share holders , don't get caught with a hand full of worthless stks. like a ship that is running out of water .

God you people are idiots. This site is full of whiners who often have difficulty with personal responsibility.

To the poster: Wachovia didn't "find" those additinal charges, they were obviously charges YOU made at one time. That is not Wachovia's fault, it's yours. To Johnny: You are another example of someone not reading the fine print. If you had I'm sure you would've understood that you would be charged for the ins after your free trial.

This is how most "free trials" work.

Again, this was YOUR fault for not paying attention. Not Wachovia's.

Wachovia and its third party agent reaped me off as well. Deposited money my IRS refund there.

They sold or shared my information with an insurance company that gave me a free insurance coverage for a few months which I accepted. Unknown to me, the company started charging about $19 a month until the account went into red.

Wachovia wrote sent me a postcard twice, cancelled my account and sent me to collection. I have since tried to get the third party information to no avail and now my otherwise good credit record is ruined.

I am leaving this bank.

Wachovia had a wonderful branch here in Smiths Station Alabama. The drive through personell were warm, friendly, and most importantly, helpful. Since the Wells Fargo sign went up things changed drastically. It seems the service manager has an affinity for drama. I have run into difficulties making a simple deposit of a check, for three visits. It also seems they have no computer to look things up anymore. I don't like being patronized, and treated like an *** by the service manager, as well. I don't enjoy going there anymore, cause I dread what "New" rule has taken effect since my last encounter with them. I am saddened to see the great customer service go away since these new clowns took over. I'm not the only one, either. During a recent verbal encounter with said service person, about 7 other customers started to chime in. This was mental overload to the employee, and she stated shaking her head at me and saying, (ever so insincere), the she was sorry, that's our policy. I have been making deposits in that branch for 8 years. Good bye, and good luck.

From: Ahmed Adel Ahmed USA address 140 Joseph Ave Staten Island NY 10314-**** To: Wachovia Corporation/ Office of the president 301 South college street Charlotte NC 28288 Dear Sir/Madam First; I apologize for disturbing you with my very frustrating story In short Because I am now in overseas at: [67 Haroon El-Rasheed street Apt 5 Heliopolis Cairo Egypt 11771] And because my credit card[No: 4828 50** **51-3019]; was about to expire on [02/2011] Therefore; I called the bank on 01/20/2011 at 1:56 AM USA time. I communicated with your representative [Rachel Barber] [Ext: 74353] regarding this matter. I learned from her that the bank issued a new replacement card, although that the bank updated my address from a long time ago to be [140 Joseph Ave Staten Island NY 10314] and the bank sent it to my old address:[1011 New Hope apt 13-A Norristown PA 19401] . She also informed me that I would receive it by 01/08/2011 !!! Which never happened, simply, because the post office switched it to my new address. To be on the safe side, I requested to block this card and to issue a new one directly to my new address. She assured me that she would do that and I would receive it by 01/28/2011. As a dishonest person; She never ordered the new card and the new card never arrived. As a result, my brother in law sent me the blocked card [No:4828 50** **51 3027].Please review her notation on my account. The blocked card arrived on 02/19/2011, I paid $ 74 to send it by FEDEX using my FEDEX account. As a continues damage I wasted from my life 8 days from 02/19/2011 to today 02/26/2011 calling the bank from overseas every day and every night several times. I contacted her supervisor Mr. David Dreanan [503-587-****] complaining to him, as usual , he apologized and promised that he would talk to her. During this horrible time I contacted Mr. William Medley [S.V.] who was trying to behave as a professional but he was not, he was not also on my side at all ; Moreover, he blamed me for complaining, saying that everybody is doing mistakes. I wasted my time to convince him with my logic by mentioning how much damage and troubles she caused me. The only professional S.V. was Mr. Darius Liptrap. I really appreciate his sincere help, I received today 02/26/2011 his new correct credit card by FedEx he also waived the fee. Dear Sir/Madam You can not imagine how much financial, nervous, emotional damage I suffered based on the sloppiness and dishonesty of one person. I insist that it is a system error. I would like to mention that I am thinking seriously to change the bank. I expect also an official apology from your end to me at my address overseas by Federal express. Ignored by Manger over tellers 3 times

On Friday, June 3, 2011, wen to Wachovia Bank to cash my check. The teller changed the deposit ticket to reflect the check deposited instead of cashed like I want. Apparently, my boss had been charged a 35.00 fee, I do not completely understand, but I went today, June 7, 2011, to Wachovia to find out what happened. The customer rep, Casey, went to get the manager over the tellers, as they walked out he said that her, she didn't look my way, but had to do something else, then went to talk to a teller, 3 times ignored, I WALKED OUT! HOW DO YOU TRAIN YOUR SO CALLED MANAGERS!

Wachovia Overdraft Fees - Customer Service Stinks!

My mortgage payment was erroneously deducted twice this month (my fault). Th e mortgage company immediately removed the duplicate payment. Wachovia had assigned 3 overdraft fees for items debited after the mortgage payment over the weekend. I called to see if those fees could be canceled since I did indeed have the funds and they refused. The funds are currently in my account and still they are unwilling to remove any of the overdraft fees - unbelievable! I will try calling Customer Service one more time, but if they still are unwilling to do anything, I am canceling my account and going elsewhere.

Better to go into your local branch and talk to someone. I've contested overdraft fees from wachovia that were genuinely not my fault and they refunded them to me everytime I asked. Good Luck

Wachovia/Wells Fargo Customer Service *** Artists

I had one of the most alarming, inexcusable and frustrating experiences with customer service and big business a few months ago. Everyone on here has probably heard about the scam banks have been running on the american people with overdraft fees - over 8 billion dollars worth last year. I am sure some of you have had the misfortune of watching your deposits linger in cyberspace and not go through until the bank has already put every withdrawl into the system. Then magically, your depost will credit, minus the exhorbitant fees the bank charges you for each 'overdraft'. Recenty I had the misfortune of being duped by Wachovia - do I believe some of the responsiblity lies with me - yes I will admit that I did not exhaustively read the fine print or know to ask certain questions that would have educated me at least to a level where I would expect something like this to happen. I suffer from placing an implicit trust in big business in america. At least so far as expecting them to be able to do business in their chosen field with some regard for honor and integrty. I have a checking accnt and savings accnt with this bank. As many people are these days I was and am still in the midst of trying to get back on my feet financially having used what reserves I had to make it through an 8 month layoff. I linked my savings account to my checking account for overdraft protection and would usually keep a small sum in there just incase. Having had to declare bankruptcy I have no credit cards to use for this purpose and frankly I dont want to go the credit card route ever again. I have a debit card for my checking account. Wachovia started a new savings program which I was interested to try and so I got online and signed up declaring that this would be my primary savings account. What i did not know was that this would unlink my overdraft protection and rather than leave things as I knew them to be would leve me without overdraft protection. A few months back I was cutting my budget very closely over a long holiday weekend. But not overly worrying about it becaseu I knew I had money set aside in my savings accoun to cover any overage I may have made - also knowing that my direct deposit was due late monday or very early tuesday morning. Needless to say I made a charge which should have resulted in an automatic transfer from mys savings to my checking, no big deal I was preparted to cover it and wouldnt minkd the small fee to pay for the convenience. This didnt happen. They let my acount overdraft and then charged me 70.00 additional dollars for the 2 transactions (one for 25.00 and one was 7.00 - i had a blance of about 22.00 with 2000 in savings). Then over the period of the weekend I used my card 5 or 6 more times. By the end of the weekend I had a checking account balance of about -550.00 for charges that totaled less than 90.00. Needless to say I was furious. Called customer service to ask why my overdraft protection wasnt working and to refund the fees. Not only were they uninformed, taking nearly an hour to get to the bottom of the problem they were rude. I finally had had enough and was referred to some special dispute department. It tooke me over an hour to even get a human being on the phone and once I did this is what I was told. I explained the problem and that my overdraft protecton was removed simply because I started another savings account program but was never informed this would be done. He gave me the party line about reading the fine pront of the offer and that the bank is entitled to those fees because of the convenience they provide by 'lending me' the money and preventing an embarrassing denial of my card. At this case I was finished with being polite and finished with abstaining from colorful language and demanded I speak with a supervisor and immediately changed that to whomever the supervisors supervisor was because I could tell by talking to this *** that the next *** in line wasnt going to be enough. While I was waiting the first guy says that out of the 400 and some odd dollars of fees Wachovia would refund me something like $54.28 because thats what the system was saying would be allowed. I was like, can you explain to me where this number came from? He proceeded to give me the run around as if there is some secret formula they use to decide how much of the money they basically stole from my account they would give me back. At this point I was getting more and more annoyed and I was really giving this guy a hard time because I was appalled at the service and the supposed methodology behind it. I told him that no that wasnt acceptable and I still wanted to be transferred to someone with more authority. Pay attention folks this is the best part coming up right here... he says ok and then askes me if I was sure I didnt want to take the offered refund amount because if I did not accept that amount before the transfer there was NO GUARNTEEE I WOULD GET THAT MUCH IF I CALLED BACK!!!! I said, excuse me? Would you mind identifying yourself and the company that you represent to me sir. Silence. I asked him again - would you please tell me your full name and what company he represented. He asked me why and I told him because I was sure that no fortune 100 finance company in america would ever have such ridiculous high pressure shady customer service practices and I needed to know who to report. That got me some more useless explanations about the mysterious number I had been quoted and he even went so far as to say he GENEROUSLY added an extra 10% before he quoted me the nubmer? I was like what? Are you *** kidding me - SUPERVISOR NOW. He then informs me the special resolution department is who I need and they would oepn a ticket to invesitgate my claim but if I turend down his offer there was no guarntee I would get any further resolution and that if I didnt take that amount now I may get nothing or less if I called back. I was dumb founded that this was possible. I declined, with prejudice needless to say. He proceeds to give me the number of the Wachovia (bought by wells fargo) dispute department and then he tells me that they are only open mon-thursday from 9-12 and are very busy and very hard to get in touch with and then he HUNG UP ON ME!! Needless to say I called back and chewed the *** off every single person I could get on the phone - I was not going to let this go. I called the bank the next day and opened a formal complaint. I reported them to the federal banking offices. Nothing, nothing and nothing... these companies know they are in a position that we are stuck accepting their *** service and they abuse it. I finally sent a scating email to the bank, every customer response email address that I had collected, every detail i could transcribe and a healthy does of unsatisfied customer sarcasm to the banks complaint department and copied channel 5's whistle blower reporting address and the news desk at channel 2 and fox. That goe me a 50% refund the fees. Ridiculous.

It is not the Big Evil Banks that are after you lady. It sounds like you can't balance your checkbook and have already stiffed banks for your excessive credit card debt and probably much more.

I completely agree with Al. It's irresponsible people like you that caused this mess we're in. Thanks for doing your part to send the economy into a tailspin.

I don't make a lot of money but because I can add and subtract AND hold myself (not the bank or anyone else) responsible for my own actions I never have these problems. Good luck, with your attitude you'll need it.

Guest

I Feel your pain. Hard times.

Not everyone is able to avoid overdrafts. They conveniently process the biggest bills first leaving the smallest bills last in hopes they can ping you $35 for many small transactions vs processing the transactions the same way they are charged. Example. I have $70 in the bank.

I make the following transactions. $1,$2,$3,$5,$8,$10,$12 "THEN" say i dont pay attention and make another payment of $50. That totals to $80. They will process the transactions like this.

$50,$12,the next $10 charge makes you overdraft along with all of the following $8,$5,$3,$2,$1.

That makes 6 overdrafts at $35 bucks a pop. I think they intentionally let deposites linger as long as they do.

Guest

Responsible people shouldn't need or rely on overdraft protection.

It's attitudes such as yours that has helped cause the finacial mess responsible folks are having to clean up.

Thanks-

Good bye Wachovia

My personal banker at the Apex, NC branch offered to help me get my credit back in shape. He applied for a secured credit card for me on line and in several weeks I received a "we're sorry letter. What in this world makes a bank turn down a secured credit card when a person is going to put $500 in their account before the card is given. I have been with Wachovia since the 80's but I guess that has nothing to do with anything. My Mom has recently died and I have been putting quite a bit of money in my account, and the money is still coming in. My Mom has been with Sun Trust for years so I am at this time planning to take all my money from Wachovia and head as fast as I can to Sun Trust. They have already advised me that I will then get a secured credit card. Now toss that around Wachovia.

Wells Fargo/Wachovia

I would like to comment on the service I got at DOWNTOWN 409 MADISON ST SE, HUNTSVILLE, AL 35801 branch. I have been banking with Wachovia since I was a teenager. I always felt very good about the service I was getting with Wachovia, until today, (12/30/10). I went to buy my first home. I had wrong instructions for the cashiers check needed at closing. I got to the branch and the line was very long, I proceed to look for help and asked Mrs. SUSAN COULTER if she could help me. (This was the first time in my whole life I really needed Wachovia to help me). She began to talk to me at a loud tone, saying that it was my fault for been unprepared, that once attorneys become bankers they can tell me what to do, walked back to line pointing at the other customers, saying that I was not better than no one else was, and send me back to line (She was so hateful I started to cry). All what I was asking for was if she could help me. All the other clients were aware of the situation, as she was loud, very rude and OFFENCIVE. I really did not need this type of servicing on my day of closing. I am very petite and have a strong Hispanic accent; she talked to me that way because she knows nothing will happen to her. I will happily close all my accounts with Wells Fargo/Wachovia on Monday; I will never again go back to that branch where I was treated worse than a dog. I know I deserve better than that.

Just When I Thought I Was Out, They Pull Me Back In

I tried to close my account in December of 2010. I thought I was done; by Wachovia we're through. Then I get a letter in January saying on my accounts is overdrawn. One of the accounts I closed is overdrawn because PCTools tried to take out money for something I did not buy. I deal with it; PCTools refunds the money, and I close the account, again. I get a collections call in February saying that my account is still overdrawn now by 70 dollars. The account wasn't closed, they don't care what PCTools did; they want their money. I go into a branch because Pennsylvania call center customer service is horrible, and they tell me they will only refund 35 dollars. I have to pay the other 35 dollars. I call the customer service number again (silly me) and am transferred again and again. I talk to a customer service representative at a Pennsylvania call center who says nope, you only get one courtesy waive and that's it. I asked to talk to a manager and her supervising manager said she was right; we have already waived 35 dollars. What's more, he told me, we already waived an 18 dollar fee in June 2010. Because more than 53 dollars is unfathomable for a huge company like Wachovia. I asked what their policy was about fee waivers and he told me they had none. So they have no policy, but they draw the line at 53 dollars. Disgusting and disheartening. I want out.

Wachovia took deposit made in error

Our firm made an error. We inadvertently completed a deposit ticket for a new client to Wachovia with an account number that belonged to a prior client. Upon finding the error we provided Wachovia with copies of all of the checks deposited along with the deposit receipt. Wachovia did their research and stated that they had taken the money out of the bank account that the money had been deposited to in error. They then proceeded to tell us that although the money had been taken out of the account they could not remit the money back to the rightful owner. Even though the checks were all made payable to an association which did not have an account with Wachovia they responded by stating that they require that we contact the individual check signers for each check deposited and request that they contact their respective bank to request a refund from Wachovia individually. What a bunch of BS
